Alongside a string of images from the sets, the 35-year-old took to Instagram to share that a ‘tremendously glorious phase’ of her life came to its completion as she wrapped the shooting for ‘Emergency’ as an actor.
In her post, the ‘Dhakkad’ star revealed that the journey wasn’t a smooth sailing ride. She wrote in her caption, “As I wrap Emergency as an actor today…. a tremendously glorious phase of my life comes to its full completion… It may seem I sailed through it comfortably but the truth is far from it…”
Detailing out the difficulties she went through to complete the movie’s acting schedule, Ranaut said that she had to mortgage all her property. She also shared that she had to continue filming despite alarmingly low blood cell counts after being diagnosed with dengue during the first shooting schedule of the Indira Gandhi biopic. “My character as an individual has been severely tested (during the filming),” she said.
Although time and again, she openly shared her feelings on social media, she didn’t reveal she was going through such a critical phase in her life as she didn’t want her well-wishers to worry for her.
“I didn’t share all this, honestly because I didn’t want people who cared to worry unnecessarily and those who desperately want to see me fall and were doing everything to make me suffer, I didn’t want to give them the pleasure of my pain,” she added.
Turning this challenging phase into a life lesson, Ranaut told her 9.4 million followers on Instagram that working hard to fulfil one’s dreams isn’t enough. An individual will be tested beyond his/her limits. “You must work hard that’s a given. Even if you are worthy, you will be tested beyond your limits and you mustn’t break. Hold on to yourself till you can … you are fortunate if life spares you but you are blessed if it doesn’t … if you break and shatter in pieces, celebrate. Because it’s time for you to be reborn … It’s a rebirth for me and I feel alive like never before … Thanks to my tremendously talented team for making it happen for me,” she shared. In the end, the actress said she was in a safe place now, and would have not shared all this if she wasn’t. “Please don’t worry, I only need your blessings and love,” her post concluded.
Her post got more than 107K likes in just four hours.
In the comments section, Ranaut’s co-star Anupam Kher lauded the actress for her honesty and courage.
“Your note here touched my heart in a very inspirational manner. Before I entered films, my grandfather once wrote to me in a letter, ‘Bheega hua aadmi baarish se nahi darta (a drenched man isn’t afraid of rain)!’ You are unstoppable. Your brutal honesty towards yourself is your biggest strength! Keep going! Love and prayers always,” his comment read.
Kher will be seen in the role of Lok Nayak JayaPrakash Narayan, known for leading the opposition against Gandhi in the mid-1970s.
‘Emergency’ co-star Mahima Chaudhry, whose breast cancer is currently in remission for five years, also sent a thumbs-up emoji to the Ranaut. “And that’s how u do it,” she wrote in the comments.
Chaudhry will essay on the role of Gandhi’s friend and confidante Pupul Jayakar, who also wrote ‘Indira Gandhi: A Biography’.
Directed by Ranaut, the film also stars Vishak Nair, Satish Kaushik, Milind Soman and Shreyas Talpade in prominent roles. Nair will play Sanjay Gandhi’s character, and Talpade will be seen as Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film.
Sonam will also return to the big screen and will be seen as Sam Manekshaw, the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
Besides ‘Emergency’, Ranaut has Sarwesh Mewara’s ‘Tejas’ in her kitty. She will be seen portraying the role of an Indian Air force pilot. Another film ‘The Incarnation: Sita’ is also in pipeline.
